Part 23: Terrain fill in and finishing touches.

Part 23

Apologies for the late update. Been extremely busy lately.

Johto is now finished so it is time to fill in the surrounding terrain.
Starting in the west the method was place chunks of terrain around the built up areas of the map.

This image was used to form the mountains, river and lakes in Johto.

The chunks of terrain were smoothed out for a more natural look.

Moving south to Azalea town and Ilex forest there is a large expanse of land. It was completely flat which made it easy to complete.

A mix of Oak and Dark Oak trees were planted to blend Ilex forest into the surrounding landscape.

Moving back west to the Safari Zone where the mountains were formed.

Tree planting and growing is a time-consuming process. Until I find a way to grow trees instantly they will be growing naturally.

Heading East it is much the same process as before. Chunks of land that are then smoothed out.

In the northeast quadrant of Johto, there is a mix of mountains and plateaus. More on this area later.

Moving back south again it's just tree growing.

Moving back north (these screenshots are so out of order) near the Lake of Rage. Just more tree growing.

Completed landscape. I couldn't be bothered to take more progress screenshots as they were mostly going to be of the same thing.

Part 17: Olivine City

Part 17

Update is finally here. Sorry. I've been busy again.

Olivine City

Olivine City is a moderately sized coastal city. Landmarks include the Glitter Lighthouse and Olivine Port where you can catch a ferry to Kanto in the DS games.

Immediately there was a problem. There is ocean to the south and east of the city and due to the size of Olivine city and its proximity to the National Park some modification of the landscape is in order.

First, the removal of some trees :-(

Once that is all cleared up it was time to start shaping the land.

I skipped a few screenshots because they were a bit boring. But there is Olivine Port. Just without the terminal.

And the harbour area. Without the public furniture.

Throughout the city there are banners. I had a go at replicating the banners using dyes and stuff. This was the result.

The terminal. Built over the water.

Glitter Lighthouse

Glitter lighthouse is an integral part of the Johto storyline. It is where Jasmine, the gym leader is looking after an Ampharos named Amphy. You as the player must go to Cianwood City and get the medicine before progressing in the story.

But the lighthouse. It is quite tall, but then again it is a light house.

The main entry.

Olivine City Gym

This gym is based on Steel-type Pokemon. The Gym leader is Jasmine.

It is quite a basic gym. There is just a walkway with hoops over it.

And there we are. Olivine City.

Part 11: Mahogany Town and Route 43

Part 11
Mt Mortar, Mahogany Town and Routes 42 and 43.

Mahogany Town

Mahogany Town is a bit of a nothing town. Just a place you go through to get to the Lake of Rage.

But despite being a nothing town there are two things worth noting. The Gym and the Team Rocket Hideout.

The Gym is an Ice type gym. It consists of three small rooms. It took some time to get the look right though.

After experimenting I think I nailed it.

Decoration complete. Like the ice cornice?

Team Rocket Headquarters

On the outside it looks just like a souvenir shop. But on the inside it ends up being much more than that.

Outside the Headquarters there is a suspicious looking artificial tree to house a radio antenna. So I made my own tree. It looks a little too perfect but that's the point.

There are three levels, all built the same way. Very thick walls and dingy alleyways.

Sparsely decorated. Typical Team Rocket.

Explosive floor tiles. Also very Team Rocket.

The staircases are not correct but I reckon they look and work better than what you would have seen in the DS game.

Next floor down. Pretty much the same but the ceiling has been raised by 2 blocks to accommodate the transmitter room.

The transmitter room. Looks like a weird sports field.

And now the transmitter with no power though.

And there we are. The town complete.

Route 43

Route 43 links Mahogany Town to the Lake of Rage. It's another straightforward route. So far the most northerly point in Johto.

I loaded up the map and found these dead corpses. Whoops.

Some ferns and flowers. Also the side of Mt Mortar has been partially shaped.

Found some snow from the gym above ground. A bit odd.

And here it is. Route 43 all done.

Plus some terrain fill in.
